Lazy Style

            I am a person who came to the United States after my high school graduation. When I entered college in Chicago, it gave me the feeling that the education was less intense. Although I did a lot of homework, I could do it very quickly. In addition, because I did not have too much homework, I became fascinated by video games. In order to play games as many as possible, I finished my assignments on the last day. I became lazy and lost my love of learning. When I thought about studying in China, I remember that my homework needed to be completed on the same day. Although I was very busy, my courses were very fulfilling. Thus, I miss my school in China because study habits and requirement supervised me to study hard.

            The allocation of time is one of the factors that I miss in China. Class time is the most important way for me to obtain more knowledge. When I came to college in Chicago, I felt that I had a lot of spare time because I only had about three hours of class each day. The knowledge I could learn was limited. In addition, I spent less time studying at home because my electronic products attracted me. I became lazy and lost my appetite of studying. In China, I spent more than ten hours in class. Moreover, I had four or five subjects a day, so I could gain more knowledge. After that, my school had self- study hours at night which helped students arrange their study time. I am a person that lacks control when it comes to social media, so I need discipline my own patience.

            The exchange time between classmates in the American classroom is limited which is the second reason I miss my school in China. Back in China,  students spend a lot of time at school, so my classmates and I can have more time to communicate and understand each other. In Chicago, because I have limited time in class,  I know very little about other students. In addition, I am lazy and do not feel motivated to learn about other students because we do not have much time together to talk after class. However, the schools in China are different. Students spend most of their time in school, which means they can easily and actively understand each other. For example, I need to stay at school about ten hours, so I can discuss issues from class with other students, and I can talk with my good friends. I have a lot of time to talk and learn from other students, so I do not have a lazy attitude towards making friends.

            Although the class time is important for learning, tutoring is also an important part of learning. Tutoring can reduce the misunderstanding of learning for students, enable students to solve learning problems faster and more efficiently and help them find better learning methods. In Chicago, I rarely go to the teacher’s office hours to coach me about my studies because the teacher’s office hours are limited. They may have other classes to teach or have some things to do after class, so the time for students to ask questions is not sufficient. Moreover, students will ask tutors for help, but they need to wait for a long time. In China, most of the time the teacher is with the students, so they can deal with problems easier. In addition, self- study is a great time for tutoring. There are more than three hours that students can ask the teachers for help. I am not lazy when I can ask questions, but I am lazy to spend time waiting to ask questions.

            In conclusion, my school years in China were very memorable for me because they urged me to become more focused on learning. Even though my school in Chicago is a way for students to freely master time to learn and develop students’ self- directed learning, I prefer my school in China. Although I think that spending a lot of time in school is so boring, it can help me acquire some new knowledge. However, I have become lazy because I spend less time on my studies and communicating with other students. I wish I could spend more time studying at home, so I need to reduce my spare time watching TV and playing games. Finally, diligence can make me move forward, and laziness will make me fall back. If I can keep a good learning heart, I will find that knowledge can make me happy.
