A Puzzle
My name is Xin Yang. My first name was named after my grandfather and Yang is my family name. To be honest, my
name doesn't mean anything or I haven’t figured it out yet. I only asked my
father the meaning of my name once. He told me that it was similar to my
grandfather’s, so it can remind him of his father.
I didn’t like my name when I was a
child because it has the same pronunciation as the heart of a sheep and other
kids just loved to make fun of it. Also, it’s a complicated word to write, 杨鑫. It takes forever to write my name before a test
because the characters have many strokes. After I entered high school and my
classmates were more mature, there were no more jokes about my name. Then, I
started to accept it, but it still means nothing to me.
Today is the first time that I
really thought about the meaning of my name other than the time I asked my
father about it twenty years ago. I guess it’s about time that I need to think
about it. It may take a long time, but the meaning of my name is worth figuring
out.
